A fresh sense of hope and renewed optimism has emerged in Amasiri following the reinstatement and swearing-in of Baron Enya Ogbonnia as Coordinator of the Amasiri Development Centre, alongside the inauguration of other government appointees.
The swearing-in ceremony, held on August 21, 2026, performed by Ebonyi state governor Rt Hon Francis Nwifuru, is being viewed as an important step towards strengthening grassroots administration, restoring confidence in local leadership and advancing peace and development in the community.
Those inaugurated include:
- Baron Enya Ogbonnia — Coordinator, Amasiri Development Centre
- Obinna Oko Enyim — Special Assistant on Internal Security, Afikpo Local Government Area
- Mrs. Patience Gabby Idam — Member, Women Development Centre
- Pastor Nwokedi Amadi — Member, Pilgrims Welfare Board
The return of Baron Enya Ogbonnia as Coordinator of the Amasiri Development Centre is particularly significant for residents and stakeholders who are looking towards greater unity, stability and purposeful development in the community.
His reinstatement, alongside the inauguration of the other appointees, is expected to strengthen coordination of government programmes and improve grassroots engagement on issues affecting residents.
Residents and stakeholders are hopeful that the newly inaugurated officials will work collectively to promote peace, security, women empowerment, youth development and the general welfare of the people.
Amasiri Awaits Broader Reconciliation
For Weekenders Magazine, the development represents an encouraging beginning, but more steps are still required to achieve lasting peace, justice and reconciliation in Amasiri.
The magazine expressed hope that subsequent measures would address some of the unresolved issues arising from the crisis, including calls for the reinstatement of the Ezeogos, the release of youths who remain in detention and appropriate consideration of losses reportedly suffered by members of the community.
The crisis has left deep social and economic scars on families and the wider community, with properties reportedly destroyed and losses running into billions of naira.
Against this background, genuine reconciliation, the magazine argues, should go beyond the restoration of administrative structures to also address the humanitarian, social and economic consequences of the crisis.
Amasiri remains a community with a strong interest in peace and development, and residents are looking towards the administration of the Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru, with hope that further steps will be taken to promote lasting peace, justice and reconciliation.
The August 21 swearing-in therefore represents more than an administrative exercise. It provides an opportunity for a fresh beginning and renewed confidence that stakeholders in Amasiri can work towards rebuilding trust, restoring unity and creating conditions for sustainable development.
For Amasiri, the hope is that this new chapter will usher in not only effective grassroots leadership, but also lasting peace, justice, healing and development.
