The Police has confirmed the killing of one person today in Jalingo.

Unconfirmed reports had earlier linked the victim to an agent of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) who was shot by a soldier after a scuffle.

“This morning during a patrol, they stopped someone on a motorcycle. He took to his heels and so they shot at him,” Police Spokesman Usman Abdullahi confirmed to The Nation.

The Area Commandant of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), Munir Bello, who earlier confirmed to The Nation about the event, just confirmed that the victim was not his member.

“He is not our operative. After it was reported to me, I rushed to the hospital. We identified he is not our operative. We followed our records to authenticate and there is no record of the victim in our office,” he stated.
