Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has condoled families of victims of recent floods in Enohia Itim and Kpoghirikpo communities, Afikpo LGA, and Azuoto Okpuitumo, Abakaliki LGA, which claimed several lives, including three children.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Monday Uzor, the governor described the disaster which began penultimate Friday and started receding on Monday as devastating, pledging government’s support for recovery and rebuilding.

Nwifuru said relief materials and rehabilitation measures would be provided in collaboration with local authorities and agencies, urging residents to factor climate change realities into their daily activities.
Governor Nwifuru said “I received with deep sadness the news of the devastating flood that recently affected the Enohia Itim and Kpoghirikpo communities in Afikpo Local Government Area and Azuoto Okpuitumo in Abakaliki LGA.
This tragedy is a sober reminder of the urgent need to integrate climate change considerations into our flood risk management strategies,” he stated.
“I sincerely condole with the families who lost loved ones, as well as with all who suffered losses during this unfortunate incident.
“As a government, we stand with you in this moment of grief, and I assure you that my administration will provide the necessary support to help you recover and rebuild.
He urged residents of the state to factor the reality of climate change into their daily activities, especially during future rainy seasons.
