The Ebonyi State Government has announced a temporary suspension of flight operations at the Chuba Okadigbo International Airport, Onueke, to enable the completion of airfield lighting installation and connection to the runway power system.
Commissioner for Aviation and Transport Technology, Mrs. Ngozi Obichukwu, made the announcement on Thursday during an inspection of the ongoing work, noting that the pause will last only a few weeks.

She explained that the project, once completed, will enable aircraft to land and take off at night and during poor weather, greatly enhancing operations at the airport. Obichukwu praised Governor Francis Nwifuru for his commitment to equipping the airport to meet international standards.
To protect critical assets during the installation, the government has deployed military and professional security operatives, including retired officers, to guard the airport.
Obichukwu also announced the completion of a 12,000-litre Jet A1 bowser for on-site aircraft refuelling.
Experts involved confirmed the installation of precision runway traffic lights among the first of its kind in Nigeria emphasising the importance of suspending flights to ensure safety during the final hookup phase.
