The President of the Association of West African Legislative Correspondents (AWALCO), Innocent Odoh, has congratulated Muslim journalists and the media community across West Africa on the successful completion of Ramadan and the celebration of Eid-el-Maulud.

In a goodwill message, Odoh commended journalists for their resilience, courage, and commitment to truth and accountability despite the evolving challenges within the media landscape.
He described Eid-el-Maulud as a period symbolising sacrifice, discipline, and spiritual renewal, urging media practitioners to reflect these values in their professional duties and interactions.
The AWALCO President called on journalists to utilise their platforms to promote peace, unity, and regional integration, especially at a time when West Africa continues to face security and socio-political challenges.
According to him, journalists play a critical role beyond reporting, serving as connectors and influencers capable of shaping public discourse and fostering understanding.
Odoh further stressed the importance of upholding professional standards such as accuracy, fairness, and ethical reporting, noting that credible journalism remains essential for democratic growth and sustainable development in the region.
He encouraged journalists to draw inspiration from the spirit of Eid by recommitting to impactful storytelling that supports peacebuilding and strengthens democratic institutions across West Africa.
The AWALCO President wished Muslim faithful a peaceful and joyful Eid celebration, expressing hope that the season would bring renewed hope and prosperity to the region.
The statement was signed by Princess-Ekwi Ajide, Publicity Secretary of the association.
