The FCT Universal Basic Education Board , FCT UBEB, has directed all schools and relevant departments under its jurisdiction to disregard Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, earlier call for indefinite strike.
The directive was contained in an internal circular dated October 7, 2026, signed by the Acting Executive Chairman of FCT UBEB, Nsu Rabo Baweygye.

The circular is in response to a communiqué issued by the NLC FCT Council directing workers within the Federal Capital Territory to commence an indefinite industrial action effective October 7, 2026.
However, FCT UBEB said the directive should not be complied with, noting that discussions were still ongoing with the relevant authorities.
“Such communiqué should not be complied with as discussion is still ongoing with the Authority,” the Board stated.
The Board further directed all schools and other relevant departments to remain open for their usual activities, warning that failure to comply with the directive could attract necessary procedures in line with existing guidelines.
The circular was addressed to all directors, heads of divisions and units, principals, LEA secretaries and all staff of the Board.
The development comes amid the labour dispute that has prompted the NLC FCT Council to call for an indefinite industrial action across the Federal Capital Territory.
FCT UBEB, however, urged all concerned personnel to take note of the directive and ensure full compliance with the Board’s position pending the outcome of ongoing discussions with the authorities.
