…..Government as a Continuum
In a time when many political leaders are more focused on starting flashy new projects just to be remembered for something, a very young, energetic and selfless leader is doing something different. He’s connecting the past to the present and the present to the future, that leader is Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, and his efforts are putting Ebonyi State on a strong path toward growth and lasting prosperity.

Governor Nwifuru is proving that true leadership is about continuity, building on the good works of those who came before him and making sure progress doesn’t stop just because a new administration begins. His approach shows a deep commitment to serving the people, not himself.
As Chief Martin Nwanchor Elechi, the second civilian governor of Ebonyi State, rightly said about Governor Nwifuru:
“You recognise that the development and growth of a State are based on continuing from the beginning, repairing where necessary what the past have done and changing where necessary what the future requires.”
This thoughtful approach is part of what makes Governor Nwifuru’s leadership very special. His ideas and actions are not common. His desire for a better future for the State , especially for the next generation is what makes him stand out extraordinarily
One example of his unique leadership style is his decision to complete the long abandoned 10-storey building at Presco Junction, a project that began under the state’s first civilian Governor, Senator Dr. Sam Ominyi Egwu, 18years ago. For nearly two decades, that building sat unfinished even though it had the potential to create jobs and support the economy of the state. Many people had given up hope but Governor Nwifuru took action. He formed a committee to restart and complete the building, bringing hope and excitement back to the people.
Some critics say Governor Nwifuru’s leadership style is unusual and they’re right. It’s unusual because he’s doing what’s right, not what’s popular. He’s not interested in only launching new projects for the sake of praise, he is focused on solutions that will work for the people. He understands the pains of the people and what they’re are going through, and he’s adopting the best ways to help them.
Governor Nwifuru understands continuity in government. That means continuing useful projects and policies, no matter who started them or what party they came from. Good governance isn’t about starting over every time. It’s about moving forward, not wasting resources, but staying focused on development.
Sadly, in this part of the World, it has become too common for new Governments to abandon projects of their predecessor, just because they didn’t initiate them. This isn’t just wrong; it’s harmful. It wastes public money, delays progress, and can even lead to unnecessary duplication of efforts.
Continuity doesn’t mean a leader has no new ideas. It doesn’t mean refusing to change, It simply means building on what already works and improving it where needed. It shows responsibility, maturity, and a deep commitment to the people.
Governor Nwifuru’s leadership style has also brought people together. Today, Ebonyi is the only state in Nigeria where opposition politicians are joining the government in large numbers. Why? Because they see a leader who is open, fair, and focused on results. His inclusive leadership is uniting the state and giving everyone a sense of belonging.
His decision to complete the 10-storey building is more than executive magnanimity . It sends a strong message: he does not tolerate waste or abandonment. Every public project involves a lot of time, money, and planning, often paid for by taxpayers. Abandoning those projects waste not just resources, but the hopes of the people.
Government is not about individuals. It’s an institution that should carry forward the good work started in the past. Leaders come and go, but the government must continue. That’s why so many people today support Governor Nwifuru’s way of reasoning.
Governors are custodians of public trust. No matter their political party, they must act in the best interest of the people. Completing ongoing projects shows that a leader is serious, dependable, and focused on the big picture.
Continuity also brings benefits like faster results and better use of resources. Starting new projects from scratch often takes a long time. But continuing existing ones can speed up progress and avoid doing the same thing twice.
Leadership is not always about starting new things. Sometimes, it’s about finishing what has already begun and finishing it well.
As members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State, we are proud to have a Governor who is changing the narrative, putting the people first, and choosing to be a servant leader. We walk with high shoulders because we have a leader who is uniting the state, not dividing it.
“True leadership honors the past by completing what it started.” Governor Nwifuru’s focus on continuity has launched a new standard. Now and in the future, every governor after him will be expected to finish what the previous one started, regardless of party. That’s how we build a stronger, united Ebonyi.
