Imo Tragedy: IMSU Junction Deserves Standard Flyover – Anyanwu
… Commiserates with Deceased Families

Following the death of over eight innocent people in the Saturdays fatal accident at Imo State University junction, Owerri, Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu has called on the state government to immediately construct a standard flyover or modernized round about at the popular IMSU Junction as the only measure to nip the ugly trend in the bud.

According to Anyanwu, who is the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party and flag bearer of the party in the last Governorship election in the state, constructing flyover or standard round about at the junction will put a stop to the constant occurrence of accident at the spot.

He regrets that in the past last five years, the popular IMSU junction has been in the news for the bad, citing government’s inability to proffer lasting solution to the menace as the root cause.

Anyanwu, an erstwhile Senate Committee Chairman on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions wonders how the APC administration in the state has continued to pay lip service to the well-being of the citizens, and rather resorts to shadow chase.

“If the present government in the state is proactive and has the interest of the citizens at heart, the first thing it would have done is to identify areas that affect the citizens and urgently profers solutions to them. Imsu junction is one of the areas that needs immediate attention. This is because students and lecturers stay at the junction to wait for taxis and buses. Instead of spending the state’s funds on frivolous and unimportant projects, the state government should immediately take action geared towards rescuing the situation.”

Expressing shock over the waste of lives and properties in the Saturdays incident, Anyanwu therefore commiserates with families of those that died in the tragedy, praying God to grant those they left behind the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

While praying for the souls of the departed, Anyanwu therefore calls on the state government to do everything possible to extend hands of goodwill to the bereaved families by ensuring that children and wives of those who died in the ill-fated incident are trained and supported as part of measure to reduce loss.
