A Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), JAM Initiative for Vulnerable Children and Climate Change on Tuesday organized it’s 2023 Easter Outreach to the Poor and vulnerable in Pegyi, Kuje Area Council of the FCT.
Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the NGO, Mrs Josie Mudasiru told newsmen in Pegyi that the event which was planned for 20 households later catered for about 40 households.
Mrs Mudasiru disclosed that JAM Initiative carried out a School Outreach in February in Lagos and Ogun States in February this year where text books and exercise books were donated to about 50 school children in designated schools.
She said the compelling economic environment had made it mandatory for JAM Initiative to reach out to widows, poor, aged and the vulnerable in the society to mitigate the harsh realities of the time.
The Founder, who is also a Deputy Director in charge of Sensitization in the Information Arm of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, said her NGO is determined to move on with more outreaches, awareness and climate change advocacies and championing of reading efforts to schools and communities in Nasarawa and Kaduna States in the coming Months.
Earlier in her welcome remarks at the event, she counselled all those in attendance to avoid mixing faith with medical issues during a Health Talk hosted by Dr. Salamatu Aminu, a Consultant Physician who volunteered her expertise to guide beneficiaries on their personal health. She also asked people to take regular exercise and give their bodies maximum rests and well deserved attention.
Dr. Salamatu Aminu Ummi had earlier counselled women on health issues relating to causes, signs symptoms, complications, treatment and or management of hypertension.
Dr. Aminu had told Abuja Digest Newspaper in an interview that as a patriotic citizen of Nigeria she disagrees with her colleagues who are migrating to other countries in search of greener pastures.
“JAM Initiative has done a really good job by fighting for the overall well-being of the vulnerable and I encourage them to keep up.” Stated Dr. Aminu.
Highlight of the outreach was the even distribution of clothes to beneficiaries mostly women and a few men from about 40 households who were seen smiling home with assorted foods made up of garri, rice, spaghetti, kitchen condiments, clothes, soft drinks, snacks and so on.
Responding, some of the beneficiaries including the Chairman of Pegyi 1000 Housing Unit Community thanked JAM Initiative for the kind gesture towards the poor and vulnerable.
Speaking in an interview, Aderibigbe Taiwo, Chairman of Pegyi Community Development Association said it is a blessing to have the Founder of JAM Initiative, Mrs Josie Mudasiru amidst them especially as her consistency in reaching out to poor has remained unwavering and is highly commendable.
Mrs Rojias Bitrus from Buzun-Kure, a suburb of Pegyi who benefitted from the outreach expressed satisfaction and gratitude to all donors and prayed God to replenish them from the sacrifices they’ve made.
Mrs Joel Amaka said the gifts came to her unexpectedly as a pleasant surprise. She appreciated the donors for their charitable donations and prayed God to grant them kind assistance in all their needs.
