Residents of Amaike Aba community in Ebonyi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State erupted in jubilation on Saturday as the Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District and Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, flagged off the construction of a two-kilometre road in the area.

The project, which cuts across the Amaike Aba Town Hall, is part of the senator’s constituency intervention projects aimed at improving infrastructure and boosting economic activities in the community.

Residents, particularly women farmers, described the road project as a major relief, saying it would enhance the transportation of agricultural produce from the hinterland to urban markets and improve the local economy.

They, however, urged the contractor to adhere strictly to the project’s specifications to ensure durability.

Speaking during the flag-off ceremony held at Amaike Aba Town Hall, Senator Nwebonyi said the road project would be executed in two phases, with one kilometre to be completed in each phase over a six-month period.

He explained that the project would be constructed with concrete pavement to suit the terrain and provide a lasting solution to the community’s road challenges.

“I feel happy because this is the kind of project that gives me joy. When I came on board, there were no good roads in our constituency, including farm roads, but today the story has changed,” he said.

According to the lawmaker, the road is expected to open up the area for further development and serve as a link to other adjoining roads.

He noted that he had completed over 40 kilometres of roads within three years in office, alongside more than 26 culverts and bridges across Ebonyi North Senatorial District.

Nwebonyi attributed his achievements to the support of Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, whom he pledged continued loyalty.

“I promised my governor in 2023 that I would set a new standard for representation in Ebonyi North, and today that standard is evident for everyone to see,” he said.

The senator also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for sustaining the Zonal Intervention Projects, noting that the Amaike Aba road was being funded through the federal constituency intervention programme.

He appealed to the President to continue supporting constituency projects, describing them as critical to grassroots development.

Chairman of Ebonyi Local Government Area, Barrister Chinedu Uburu, thanked the senator’s performance, saying his achievements within three years had positively impacted communities across the senatorial district.

Similarly, the APC Zonal Chairman for Ebonyi North, John Nwankata, alongside Architect Mbam Agbo, Eze Sunday Oketa and Dad Enigwe, passed a vote of confidence on Senator Nwebonyi and urged the people of the zone to support his re-election for a second term in the Senate.

The contractor handling the project, Engr. Mustapha Ahmed, assured the people that the road would be completed within the stipulated timeframe while maintaining the required construction standards.
