KANO STATE SECURITY : CP GUMEL BENCHMARKED WITH MEDIA CHIEF EXECUTIVES

CP Gumel appeals to Media Executives to be Reporting Crimes with National Security Outlook and Patriotism

CP also commends all crime reporters for the level of supports and cooperation given to the police command in reducing crime in the state.

On Wednesday, 20th of December 2023, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Police Command, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, FIPMA, psc in a benchmarking discussion held at the Command’s Headquarters, Bompai Kano commend the media executives for the excellent working relationship in a meeting that is meant for ensuring peace and security in the State and to avoid any kind of reportage capable of igniting violence, especially with the upcoming Governorship Supreme Court Judgement.

The CP also required that issues are to be fully evaluated and balanced before airing, and urged them to handle sensational stories with care and to avoid misleading the public, avoid propagation of hate speeches, fake news, misinformation, disinformation, mal-information. Media Executives were also advised to be guided by NBC codes, maintain close relationships with the Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) of their areas and share information with them.

The heads of Media Stations in the meeting commended the CP for the peace and stability so far and also pledged to continue with the understanding, support and cooperation.

Finally, The CP expressed his gratitude to the Media Executives for their unwavering support in disseminating timely and accurate information to the public. He further urged them to continue working with the Police Command in spreading awareness about the Command’s ongoing efforts to combat crime and ensure the safety of all residents in Kano State.

The CP also distributed the contact of the supervising officers to the invitees, including Departmental Heads, Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and the Command’s Emergency Numbers for easy flow of information as the issue of security is a collective responsibility.
