The Federal Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha, has commended Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, for his agricultural transformation agenda, particularly efforts to modernise the livestock sector and strengthen food security.
The Minister gave the commendation during his working visit to the Niger Foods facility at Tagwai, where he witnessed a demonstration of the Livestock Identification, Inspection and Management System (LIIMS), by Niger Foods team, the digital platform designed to enhance livestock identification, traceability and management.
The Federal Minister also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Niger Foods and six livestock and pastoralist enterprises as part of efforts to strengthen livestock production and integrate traditional pastoral activities into a more organised and commercially driven value chain.
The organisations covered by the agreement are Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore (Niger State Chapter), Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Mogal Fulbe, Gam Allah Fulbe, BN Hassan Shiroro Enterprise and Ismi Integrated Nigeria Limited.
The Minister described Niger State as an emerging model of public private collaboration in agriculture, noting that the integration of digital solutions like the LIIMS traceability module alongside grassroot pastoral groups, this collaboration transitions traditional herding into a highly productive food ecosystem.
This milestone directly advances the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development’s mandate to secure food production, scale up red meat output, and integrate marginalized communities into the commercial economy.
In an interview, the Executive Chairman of Niger Foods, Mr. Sammy Adigun, appreciated the Minister for the visit and said the company would expand livestock processing while creating employment opportunities and supporting pastoralists and livestock operators through improved infrastructure, veterinary services and access to markets.
