Mokwa Flooding : Veritas University donates relief materials to Niger State Govt

The Veritas University, Abuja has donated some relief materials to Niger State government for the victims of Mokwa flood disaster.

The delegation led by the Dean of faculty of Education, Reverend Father Peter Bakwap, on Tuesday at the Deputy Governor’s office, explained that their visit was to commiserate with the government and people of Niger State over the recent flood disaster that happened in Mokwa town recently.

He said Niger State is a home as some of their students are Nigerlites, and one of their Priests also lost his life in the incidence, hence the need to support the Mokwa flood victims as part of the institution’s corporate social responsibility.

Father Peter stressed the importance of unity, and providing humanitarian support irrespective of religions affiliation.

Despite being an institution founded by the Catholic community, Father Peter disclosed that they admit students from other faith, a gesture which enable the students to integrate efficiently and fit into the society whenever they found themselves in leadership position.

He also prayed to God to grant the souls of those who lost their lives eternal rest and succour to those still alive.

Responding on behalf of the state government, the Deputy Governor of Niger state, Comrade Yakubu Garba appreciated Veritas University for coming to identify with the state over the devasting Mokwa flood incident.

He described the Mokwa incident as a national disaster as many non-indigines of the state were among the victims, thereby appreciating the University as the first faith based institution or organization that has come to condole with the state government over the incident

The Deputy Governor also assured that the items will be distributed to the victims accordingly, and as soon as possible.

The items donated includes 150 Mattresses, cartoons of detergents, waterguard, treated mosquito nets and repellent, as well as torchlights.
