NAWOJ FCT Chapter, Sympathizes with Our National Chairperson, Hajia Aisha Ibrahim, People and Journalists of Borno, Urges FG to Act Fast

By Sharon Akuboh

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, (NAWOJ) FCT Chapter, has sympathised with the people of Borno State, the National Chairperson NAWOJ Comrade Aisha Ibrahim, members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), and especially our brave colleagues, NAWOJ members, who have been directly or indirectly affected by the recent catastrophic floods, we therefore call on the Government to act fast.

These floods, triggered by the collapse of the Alau Dam, have submerged thousands of homes, farmlands, the palace of the Shehu of Borno, and government facilities in the State Capital Maiduguri, leaving destructions in their wake. We urge the FG to take drastic actions to arrest the flood and provide relief material and temporary shelter. Carry out maintenance work on dams to avoid future occurrences

In this very trying moment of crisis we , NAWOJians in FCT stand in solidarity with all journalists and especially NAWOJ members, women and children. knowing that we females in such situations are exposed to health hazards.
Be assured that you are not alone. Thus there would be need for medical personnels from the neighbouring states to be flown in to assist

This was contained in a Press Statement jointly signed by the Chairperson Bassey Ita Ikpang and the Secretary Nkiru Okeke declaring that “NAWOJIANs in the FCT have continued to critically work and share the stories of your communities, despite the personal hardships you face. We feel your pains and are continually praying for God’s intervention. And therefore we ask the state and federal Government to act fast”.

NAWOJ FCT remains committed and resolute in providing support in any way possible. Together, we will rise above this hardship. Our thoughts, prayers, and solidarity remain with all of you.
