The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has taken a significant step towards promoting peace and unity among its members in Niger State. On Tuesday, February 25, 2025, the National Chairperson of NAWOJ, Aisha Ibrahim, inaugurated a caretaker committee to oversee the affairs of the Niger State Chapter.

The caretaker committee, chaired by Asabe Sule Garba, has been tasked with streamlining the activities of the association and ensuring a credible election for the State Chapter within the next three months. The committee members include Maimuna Raji Egigogo as Secretary, and Maureen Dibia, Maryam Musa, and Ameera Bawa as members.
Comrade Aisha Ibrahim, urged members of the association in Niger State to give peace a chance, emphasizing that it is only in an atmosphere of peace that the association can achieve its set goals. She encouraged members to shelve all forms of bickering and sentiment, and instead work towards moving NAWOJ in the state forward.
The Zonal Vice Chairperson of NAWOJ, Zone D, Mrs. Chizoba Ogbeche, also emphasized the importance of peace and unity in the Niger State Chapter. She commended members for turning out in large numbers for the inauguration and assured that the National Secretariat is committed to ensuring a vibrant, strong, and united NAWOJ at the state and national levels.
The Chairman of the NUJ Niger State Council, Comrade Abu Nmodu, stated that the disbandment of the electoral committee and the inauguration of the caretaker committee was done in good faith. He emphasized that the State Council has no personal interest but acted in the interest of peace and to avoid setting a bad precedence.
In her acceptance speech, the Chairperson of the Caretaker Committee, Asabe Sule Garba, appreciated the National Officers and the NUJ Niger State Chapter for their confidence in them. She promised that the committee will ensure that the purpose for which they were set up is achieved, and solicited for the support of all stakeholders to actualize the mandate given to them.
