Dangote Refinery Receives Commendations for Sustaining Quality and Ending Fake Fuel Era in Nigeria

The Dangote refinery, Nigeria’s first privately-owned petrochemical refinery, has been praised for its commitment to producing and distributing high-quality petroleum products. According to Douglas Inedu, President of the Independent Monitors Group on Economic Reforms, the refinery’s efforts have put an end to the era of fake fuel importation and distribution in Nigeria.

Inedu commended the refinery’s sincerity and integrity in maintaining a consistent supply of quality products, proving critics wrong. The group noted that Dangote refinery’s fuel is not only affordable but also of excellent quality, with a metering system that ensures accurate measurement.

Recent reports indicate that the refinery is fulfilling up to 60% of Nigeria’s domestic gasoline demand, stabilizing the country’s fuel supply and reducing dependence on imports. As of January 2025, the refinery was producing over 30 million liters/day of gasoline, with utilization surpassing 85%.

The group urged the Nigerian government and industry stakeholders to support the Dangote refinery in its efforts to maintain the integrity of distribution. With the refinery expected to reach full capacity by mid-March, its impact on the local energy market is expected to be substantial.
