The National Secretariat of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has constituted a nine-member Credentials Committee ahead of the Association’s 2026 Triennial National Delegates Conference scheduled for November.
The committee was constituted during the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of NAWOJ held in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State.
The Credentials Committee is expected to coordinate key processes relating to the preparation and conduct of the forthcoming national delegates conference.
Speaking during the inauguration, NAWOJ National Chairperson, Aishatu Ibrahim, urged members of the committee to approach their assignment with fairness, impartiality and professionalism.
Ibrahim also emphasised the need for strict adherence to the Constitution of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and other applicable regulations guiding NAWOJ.
According to her, respect for established procedures and due process remains important to maintaining the integrity, unity and credibility of the Association.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Alhassan Yahya Abdullahi.
In his remarks, Abdullahi charged the members to discharge their responsibilities with integrity, patriotism and professionalism.
He further urged the committee to ensure that the processes leading to the conference and its associated electoral activities are conducted in accordance with the applicable rules and principles of transparency and fairness.
The NUJ President also commended NAWOJ for its commitment to democratic processes, while urging the committee to remain guided by the NUJ Constitution in carrying out its mandate.
The Committee
The nine-member Credentials Committee is chaired by Comrade Rajab Mohammed.
Other members are Comrade Nsibiet John; Comrade Maureen Sheyin, representing Zone A; Comrade Abisola Ariwodola, Zone B; Comrade Stephanie Ude, Zone C; Comrade Grace Akwe Ogbayi, Zone D; Comrade Rashida Yusuf, Zone E; Comrade Grace Orumieyefa, Zone F; and Comrade Farida Abubakar.
The committee has been tasked with coordinating the necessary processes towards the successful organisation and conduct of the 2026 NAWOJ Triennial National Delegates Conference.
The NAWOJ National Secretariat subsequently appealed to members and stakeholders of the Association to extend the required cooperation and support to the committee as it carries out its responsibilities.
The conference is scheduled to take place in November 2026.
