A team of officials from the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), Abuja, has inspected the Federal College of Education (Technical), Isu, as part of the accreditation process for its academic programmes.

The inspection forms part of the college management’s preparations for the graduation of its pioneer students, who are currently sitting for their final-year examinations.

FCET, Isu, is one of the six Federal Colleges of Education established in March 2021 by the late President Muhammadu Buhari, aimed at boosting the production of technical manpower to strengthen Nigeria’s basic education subsector.

The NCCE team, led by Mrs. Dutse, was conducted round the institution by the Provost, Professor Okey Reuben Okechukwu, to assess the availability and adequacy of human and material resources required for graduating students in technically demanding programmes.

While guiding the team through the various departments and Schools of Education, Professor Okechukwu described the college as “a toddler growing at a very fast pace,” despite operating under severe security challenges of life-threatening magnitude.

Facilities inspected included the ultra-modern School of Education Complex, the permanent Administrative Complex, the School of Vocational Education Complex, and an ultra-modern students’ hostel currently under construction.

Other facilities visited were the take-off Library Complex, the colossal ultra-modern Library Complex under construction, and the ICT Complex housing the Provost’s Office, noted as the first completed project among similar colleges nationwide. The ICT facility was donated by former Governor of Ebonyi State, Senator Sam Ominyi Egwu.

In their remarks, members of the accreditation team commended the Provost for his doggedness, resilience, and unwavering commitment to the growth and development of the institution. They encouraged him to sustain the momentum to achieve accelerated institutional development.

Impressed by his leadership and performance, the team fondly described Professor Okechukwu as “the Eagle of the College” and “Odogwu Provost.”
