A high-powered delegation of the Kano State Government led by the Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, was at Radio Nigeria Pyramid FM Kano to sympathize with the station over the attack on its staff who were on assignment covering the just concluded APC convention in Kano State.
Speaking during the visit, Comrade Waiya frowned at the dastardly act perpetrated by the political thugs. He described the attack as barbaric and unacceptable in a democratic setting.
The Commissioner pledged the commitment of the Kano State Government to take full responsibility for the hospital bills of the affected journalists and the renovation of the Radio Nigeria Pyramid FM vehicle destroyed by the perpetrators.
He called on security agencies to immediately investigate, arrest and prosecute those responsible for the attack to serve as a deterrent.
In his response, the Acting Manager of Pyramid FM, Alhaji Umar Nuhu, welcomed the Commissioner and his entourage to the station. He appreciated the state government’s kind gesture and described the visit as timely and a demonstration of government’s concern for the welfare of journalists.
Also speaking, the Controller News of Pyramid FM and National Secretary of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Comrade Wasilah Ibrahim Ladan, described the Kano State Government as a government of the people and for the people.
She said the synergy between the state government and journalists remains cordial, and described the visit as a great honor to the station.
Comrade Ladan commended the Governor for sympathizing with the station and for promising to clear the hospital bills of the affected journalists.
She, however, called on government and relevant security agencies to take proactive measures to curb security challenges and prevent a reoccurrence of such attacks by political thugs.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Kano State Council, Comrade Abdullahi, appreciated the delegation and appealed for more support for the station.
The delegation later inspected the damaged vehicle of the station.
