NCWS Celebrates First Lady’s Landmark Empowerment for Persons With Disabilities

The National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) Nigeria heartily congratulates all persons with disabilities across the country on the successful launch of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Economic Empowerment Programme in commemoration of the 2025 International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

NCWS commends Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, for her exemplary leadership and genuine commitment to inclusion, as demonstrated through today’s nationwide empowerment.

According to the First Lady’s address, the RHI has:

Provided N200,000 business recapitalization grants to 250 persons with disabilities in every state and the FCT

Released N50 million per state, the FCT, and DEPOWA to strengthen local support systems

Empowered a total of 9,500 beneficiaries nationwide, amounting to an unprecedented investment of N1.9 billion

Ensured that the programme will now become an annual empowerment initiative every December 3rd

NCWS also celebrates the beneficiaries and encourages them to make meaningful use of this opportunity to expand their businesses and improve their livelihoods.

The Council remains committed to supporting programmes that promote equality, economic empowerment, and full inclusion of persons with disabilities in national development.
