Niger Assembly adopts solutions to tackle insecurity in IBBUL

Niger State house of assembly has adopted the findings and recommendations of the joint committee on Education, security and Intelligence on the investigation into the security breaches and robbery attacks at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai.

The committee chairman, Hon. Muhammad Sani Idris, member representing Tafa state constituency, while presenting the committee report at the plenary, said that the committee expresses deep concern over the worsening security situation affecting students of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University Lapai.

Idris said the committee recognizes the urgent needs for collaborative intervention involving the legislature, executive, University management, security agencies and the host community.

The house therefore adopt the committee’s following recommendations that;

The house fast-tracks the enactment of legislation regulating off-campus students accommodations, including safety standards and landlord obligation.

Also That the state government increases funding and accelerates the development of on campus hostels.

The University should ensure immediate commencement of the hotel projects with the 750M naira TETFund grant.

Adding that the security infrastructure such as operational vehicles, surveillance gadgets and personnel be provided to both the University and the host community.

Furthermore,the regulatory agencies monitors and control housing rents in student dominated areas to curb exploitation by Landlords.

The house however reaffirms its unwavering commitment to promoting safe, affordable and accessible learning environments for all students across the state.
