From Rashidat Suleiman, Minna

The Niger State House of Assembly has taken a significant step towards tackling the chronic water shortages in Bosso, Chanchaga, and environs by calling on the Executive Arm of Government to provide temporary measures to ease the hardship faced by residents.

This call was made sequel to a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by Hon. Arc. Abubakar Suleiman Gomna, Member Representing Bosso Constituency, during plenary of the House.

Presenting his motion, Hon. Arc. Gomna noted with serious concern the persistent and worsening water shortages currently being experienced across communities within Bosso constituency. He emphasized that access to clean water is not only a basic human need but also essential for maintaining public health, hygiene, and community well-being.

The ongoing dry season has further depleted available water sources, compelling residents to rely on unsafe and expensive alternatives, thereby increasing the risk of disease outbreak. Arc. Gomna expressed concern that if temporary but practical measures are not urgently implemented, the water crisis may escalate into a full-blown humanitarian emergency .

The House has called on the Executive Arm of Government to immediately drill solar-powered and commercially viable boreholes in each of the three units of all the wards in Bosso constituency as an urgent and temporary intervention to ease the hardship caused by the water shortage.

The Executive Arm is also urged to promptly provide and deploy water tankers to distribute clean and safe water freely to all affected communities in Bosso, Minna and Environs pending the completion of the boreholes projects.

The persistent water shortage in Bosso constituency has reached a critical level, and it is imperative that we take immediate action to address this crisis.
