As part of campaign promises to the people, the Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago, has announced plans to undertake a monumental infrastructure project, involving the construction of 250 kilometers of intra-city roads spanning Minna, Bida, Suleija, and Kontagora areas.

Governor Mohammed Bago, made this declaration at the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the 44km dual carriageway Bida Ring Road in Bida Local government. ” He emphasized the government’s unrelenting commitment towards transforming the state and heralding a new era of prosperity”.

The Bida Ring Road, a cornerstone of the Governor’s urban renewal initiatives, promises to be a catalyst for economic growth, employment generation, and enhanced living standards in the State and region.

It aligns with the broader vision of providing world-class infrastructure to attract investment partners and position the state on the global stage, for economic and political development of the State.

Governor Bago’s administration also vowed to boost security measures and enhance healthcare as well as infrastructure services across the state.

“The government is determined to shift from subsistence to mechanised farming, with agriculture taking the lead in driving the state’s economy,” Governor Bago declared.

In his opening remarks, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructural Development, Hon Suleiman Umar, expressed optimism that the project would alleviate traffic congestion, improve economic activities, and revitalise the benefiting towns.

He said; “The Ministry will maintain rigorous supervision and monitoring to ensure the project’s successful execution.”
The Managing Director of Arab Contractors, Mohammed El-Edarous, assured Governor Bago, of delivering a high-quality job within the stipulated timeline, instilling confidence in the government and the people of Niger State.

In his address, The Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Abdulmalik Daji, represented by his Deputy, Rt Hon. Afiniki Eunice Dauda, advocated the reinstatement of toll gates across the state as a means to boost internally generated revenue.

Prominent figures attended the occasion including Senator Peter Jiya, representing Niger South, Saidu Abdullahi, Member representing Bida/Gbako/Katcha Federal Constituency, Aliyu Abdullahi, Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, and the Chairmen of Lavun and Bida LG Councils, along with the Galadiman Nupe, Aliyu Danjuma, who represented the Etsu Nupe his Royal Highness, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar.
The Niger State House of Assembly has called for the inclusion of tollgates in the ongoing road rehabilitation and construction in the State.
The Speaker of the State Assembly, Abdulmalik Sarkin Daji made the call in Bida when Governor Mohamed Umar Bago flagged off the construction of the Forty-four Kilometer Ring Road project in Bida.
Under the present administration’s Urban Renewal Programme in the State, this is the Second out of the remodeling of Four major cities that the Governor Mohammed Umar Bago led Administration in the State has promised to work on.
So far, the Governor has flagged off the over Two Hundred Kilometer township road project in Minna, with that of Minna and Suleja waiting for inauguration.
Speaking at the flag off of the Bida project the Speaker of the State Assembly, Hon Abdul Malik Sarkin Daji said the provision of tollgates would enhance the IGR in the state.
The Speaker represented by his Deputy, Afinike Eunice said “You said you want us to increase the revenue base of the State by 20 percent but if you seat here and count the number of trailers entering Niger State you realize that it will be of great interest to have tollgates”
The State Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago said in addition to the earlier four cities to be remodelled, Government will also award the contract for the construction of 250km intra Minna, Bida, Suleija and Kontagora respectively.
“In Bida we will have fifty Kilometer intra road, Minna one hundred while Suleja and Kontagora will have 50 Kilometer intra road each”
The State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Alhaji Suleiman Umar restated the Commitment of the Ministry to support all the infrastructural initiatives of the State Governor.
In their various goodwill messages, other Speakers, including the the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress APC and the minister Of State Agriculture and Food Security Sabi Abdullahi among other dignitaries said the economic importance of the project cannot be quantified and urged the Governor to remain focused in delivering good governance to the people.
