Nigeria Felicitates Tanzania on Union Day, Reaffirms Strong Bilateral Ties
The Federal Government of Nigeria has extended warm congratulations to the United Republic of Tanzania on the occasion of its Union Day celebration, marked annually on April 26.
Union Day commemorates the historic merger of Tanganyika and Zanzibar in 1964, a defining moment that laid the foundation for national unity, political stability, and sustained socio-economic growth in Tanzania. The milestone continues to reflect the resilience, vision, and collective spirit of the Tanzanian people.

Nigeria commended Tanzania for its unwavering commitment to peace, democratic governance, and regional integration. It also acknowledged the country’s significant role in peacekeeping operations, conflict resolution efforts, and development initiatives across Africa, which continue to advance the continent’s quest for stability and prosperity.
Both countries maintain cordial and mutually beneficial relations, anchored on cooperation in key areas such as trade, education, culture, tourism, and multilateral engagement. Nigeria and Tanzania also work closely within platforms such as the African Union and the United Nations to promote sustainable development, regional cooperation, and global peace.
Nigeria reaffirmed its commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties with Tanzania and exploring new avenues of collaboration for the mutual benefit of both nations.
The Government and people of Nigeria wished their Tanzanian counterparts continued unity, peace, and progress as they celebrate this important national milestone.
