Spokespersons of the Amasiri community in Ebonyi State have raised alarm over alleged threats to the lives and fundamental human rights of residents, accusing the Ebonyi State Government and the Nigerian military of involvement in actions they described as intimidation and repression.
Speaking during a recent media discussion, Princess Joy Idam Omagha, Spokesperson of the community, alongside legal practitioner Xavier Chinaecherem Mkpachi-Oko, Esq., alleged that thousands of residents are being affected by what they termed ongoing rights violations.

According to the representatives, the situation has escalated into what they described as “an international emergency,” claiming that more than 30,000 people — including about 48,000 registered voters in the area — are under threat.
They further alleged that videos and other materials documenting incidents in the community are already in circulation and would be tendered before competent courts and relevant human rights bodies.
“We will explore the courts. The judiciary remains the last hope of the common man,” Mkpachi-Oko said, expressing confidence that justice would prevail despite concerns about alleged non-compliance with court orders in previous instances.

The speakers referenced recent remarks by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in which he reaffirmed his commitment to the rule of law and pledged non-interference in judicial processes. They expressed hope that any legal proceedings arising from the dispute would be respected and enforced in line with constitutional provisions.
The community representatives maintained that no government has the authority to undermine citizens’ fundamental rights to life and dignity, stressing that accountability would follow any proven wrongdoing, regardless of the tenure of public office holders.
They also raised concerns over the reported detention of some community leaders, including a traditional ruler, describing the development as troubling and emotionally distressing for residents.
While emotions ran high during the discussion, the representatives emphasized that their preferred course of action remains legal redress and peaceful advocacy.
As of the time of filing this report, the Ebonyi State Government and the Nigerian military had not issued an official response to the specific allegations.
Observers say the situation continues to generate debate among stakeholders, with calls for calm, independent investigation, and strict adherence to the rule of law to prevent further escalation.
