NIS DG Shaibu Hails Edo Queebs for Winning WAFU-B Title

The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports, NIS, Comrade Philip Shaibu, has congratulated Edo Queens for winning the 2026 WAFU-B Women’s Champions League title.

Shaibu congratulated the Edo Queens for the victory they recorded against Ghanaian girls. He described the win as a proud moment for Nigerian women’s football and for Edo State.

The NIS DG, who is also the immediate past Deputy Governor of Edo State, praised the girls for their determination and success at the WAFU-B tournament. He said their performance showed the strength of Nigerian football on the regional stage.

Edo Queens won the 2026 WAFU-B Women’s Champions League title after a 2-2 draw and a 4-1 penalty shootout victory over Ghana’s Ampem Darkoa Ladies. The match was keenly contested from start to finish.

The victory has secured for Edo Queens a place in the upcoming CAF Women’s Champions League finals. Shaibu said the qualification is an opportunity for the team to fly the Nigerian flag higher on the continent.

He urged the players and technical crew to remain focused as they prepare for the CAF tournament. Shaibu reaffirmed the commitment of the National Institute for Sports to support the growth of women’s football in Nigeria.
