In the wake of the recent train derailment on the Abuja–Kaduna rail line, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Dr. Kayode Opeifa, has earned widespread commendation for his hands-on leadership in ensuring that the tracks are restored in record time.
Since the unfortunate incident, Dr. Opeifa has been on the ground daily, personally supervising repair works and motivating technical teams. Eyewitnesses noted that he often stays with the engineers late into the night, determined to see the railway service restored for the thousands of Nigerians who rely on the route for safe and affordable travel.

Nigerians on social media have hailed his resilience and commitment, describing him as a hardworking public servant who does not delegate his core responsibilities to aides or assistants. Many expressed the view that if more leaders in public office demonstrated such dedication, Nigeria’s infrastructure challenges would be tackled with fewer setbacks.
One commuter, reacting online, wrote: “Dr. Opeifa is proving that leadership is about presence and action. He understands that this rail line is the lifeline for many Nigerians, and his commitment gives us hope.”
As repair works near completion, expectations are high that normal train operations on the Abuja–Kaduna route will soon resume. For many Nigerians, Dr. Opeifa’s example stands as a reminder that diligent leadership can indeed make a difference.
