Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has charged the newly inaugurated 13 local government chairmen to prioritise grassroots development and good governance in their respective councils.
Nwifuru gave the charge on Tuesday at the Christian Ecumenical Centre, Abakaliki, during the swearing-in ceremony of the 13 chairmen and vice chairmen elected in the August 22, 2026, local government elections.
The governor described their inauguration as a significant responsibility, reminding them that they had sworn to uphold the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and serve the people at the grassroots.
“This action is unique because we swore to obey the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.
Nwifuru urged the council chairmen to regard their positions as a sacrifice and a call to service, stressing that the responsibilities attached to their offices were enormous.
“The responsibility you swore to obey the Constitution is huge and it is a thankless job. You swore to serve the people of your local government and you must continue to understand and serve the people of this great state,” he said.
The governor also charged the chairmen to implement the APC manifesto, policies and programmes while protecting the interests of the party.
“As Local Government Chairmen, you must support, pray for and discuss our party, the APC.
“We will not leave any position for another party. We will win 100 per cent in all elections for our party, APC,” Nwifuru declared.
He urged the vice chairmen to cooperate with their principals and diligently discharge responsibilities assigned to them.
“You should respect the chairmen and carry out responsibilities assigned to you. Don’t work against them,” he advised.
