Opobo Nation Women Intensify Drive for Health, Economic Empowerment

By Sharon Akuboh

Women of the Vanguard of Opobo Nation Women’s Wing have reaffirmed their commitment to promoting healthy living, economic empowerment, and community development following their monthly meeting held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The meeting brought together members of the association to review ongoing initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of women while strengthening entrepreneurship and unity within the Opobo Nation.

Addressing the gathering, the Coordinator of the Women’s Wing, Amaopurubo Grace Jaja, urged members to place greater emphasis on their health, describing good health as the foundation for personal productivity and community development.

She encouraged women to embrace regular medical check-ups and adopt healthy lifestyles, stressing that a healthy woman is better equipped to care for her family, manage her business, and contribute meaningfully to the progress of the Opobo Nation.

Reaffirming the association’s commitment to women’s economic advancement, the organisation disbursed non-interest loans to eligible members to support the expansion of their businesses.

According to the leadership, the interest-free loan scheme is designed to remove financial barriers confronting women entrepreneurs, promote self-reliance, and encourage sustainable business growth among members.

In recognition of accountability and financial discipline, the Women’s Wing also presented certificates of recognition to beneficiaries who successfully accessed the non-interest loans and completed their repayment obligations.

The awards, organisers said, were aimed at celebrating diligence, integrity, and commitment while encouraging other women to take advantage of the initiative responsibly.

Members commended the programme, describing it as a practical demonstration of the association’s dedication to improving the socio-economic well-being of women and strengthening grassroots development within the Opobo Nation.

The meeting concluded with renewed calls for unity, entrepreneurship, healthy living, and greater participation of women in initiatives that promote sustainable community development.
