OSUN DECIDES : 20 REASONS WHY OSUN MAY RE-ELECT ADELEKE

By Joy Omagha Idam

As Osun State goes to the polls, Governor Ademola Adeleke enters the August 15, 2026 governorship election seeking a fresh mandate from the people.

The election is a contest between competing visions for the future of the state, with Adeleke presenting his first-term record and his promise of continuity as key reasons for another term.

For supporters of the governor, the argument for re-election is built around what they describe as visible interventions, improved attention to workers and public institutions, infrastructure development and a grassroots political connection.

Here are 20 reasons supporters believe Osun may choose continuity with Adeleke:

1. INFRASTRUCTURE RENEWAL

Supporters point to the administration’s emphasis on roads and other public infrastructure as evidence of its determination to improve the physical environment of Osun.

2. ATTENTION TO WORKERS’ WELFARE

Workers’ welfare has featured prominently in the administration’s defence of its record. For many public servants, how government treats its workforce remains an important measure of governance.

3. EDUCATION AS A PRIORITY

The administration has identified education among the sectors receiving attention, with interventions aimed at improving learning environments and opportunities for students.

4. HEALTHCARE INTERVENTIONS

Healthcare is another area supporters cite in assessing the administration. Improved healthcare facilities and access to medical services remain critical to the wellbeing of Osun residents.

5. GRASSROOTS APPEAL

Adeleke has maintained a strong grassroots political presence. His supporters argue that his ability to connect with ordinary residents gives him an advantage in an election where community-level mobilisation matters greatly.

6. YOUTH ENGAGEMENT

Young people represent a significant part of Osun’s population and electorate. Supporters point to the administration’s youth-oriented initiatives and empowerment efforts as reasons for continued support.

7. WOMEN EMPOWERMENT

The administration’s focus on women and vulnerable groups has also featured among the reasons advanced by supporters seeking another mandate for the governor.

8. AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT

Agriculture remains central to Osun’s economy and livelihoods. Supporters believe the administration’s attention to agriculture and economic opportunities can help strengthen rural communities.

9. ECONOMIC MANAGEMENT

Governor Adeleke has argued that his administration has improved the state’s financial position, including efforts at debt repayment. At a recent town-hall meeting, he said Osun had moved from insolvency towards prosperity.

10. COMPLETION OF GOVERNMENT PROJECTS

For supporters, continuity would allow ongoing projects to be completed rather than interrupted by a change of administration.

11. COMMUNITY-BASED GOVERNANCE

Adeleke’s political style has often emphasised direct engagement with communities. Supporters say this has helped make government more accessible to people outside the major urban centres.

12. CULTURAL IDENTITY

Osun possesses a rich cultural heritage, and supporters believe the administration’s embrace of the state’s cultural identity has strengthened the relationship between government and the people.

13. EXPERIENCE IN GOVERNANCE

Having spent a full first term in office, Adeleke now has experience of the responsibilities and complexities of governing the state. Supporters argue that a second term would allow him to use that experience more effectively.

14. POLITICAL MOBILISATION

The governor has demonstrated an ability to build a broad political network across communities. Recent reports have highlighted grassroots mobilisation in support of his second-term bid.

15. CONTINUITY OF POLICY

Supporters argue that development programmes require time to mature. A second term, they believe, would provide the opportunity to consolidate policies and programmes already started.

16. INFRASTRUCTURE AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT

Beyond roads, supporters point to broader efforts to improve public facilities and the appearance and functionality of communities across the state.

17. A RECORD TO DEFEND

Unlike a first-time candidate, Adeleke is seeking re-election with a record that voters can assess. His supporters believe that voters who are satisfied with his performance will have a reason to reward him with another term.

18. ELECTORAL EXPERIENCE

Adeleke’s political journey has already seen him successfully defeat an incumbent governor in the 2022 election. That experience has helped shape his political organisation and campaign strategy.

19. THE ARGUMENT FOR CONSOLIDATION

Perhaps the strongest argument advanced by his supporters is simple: continue what has been started.

They contend that changing leadership at this point could disrupt programmes and policies that require additional time to produce their full impact.

20. THE POWER OF THE PEOPLE’S VERDICT

Ultimately, the most important reason for any re-election is the electorate itself.

If Osun voters believe that Adeleke’s performance deserves another opportunity, their votes will provide the mandate.

Democracy is ultimately about the people — their expectations, their experiences and their judgement at the ballot box.

OSUN’S CHOICE, OSUN’S FUTURE

The 2026 Osun governorship election is not merely about one candidate. It is about the direction the state chooses for the next four years.

Governor Adeleke has presented his record and asked the people of Osun to trust him with another mandate. His opponents have presented their own alternatives and arguments.

The final decision belongs to the voters.

Whatever the outcome, Osun deserves a peaceful, credible and transparent election in which every eligible voter can freely express his or her choice.

GOOD LUCK, GOVERNOR ADELEKE

As Osun goes to the polls, Weekenders Magazine wishes Governor Ademola Adeleke good luck in his re-election bid.

May the election be peaceful, transparent and reflective of the genuine will of the people of Osun State.

May the people vote wisely.

And may the next chapter of Osun’s development be defined by peace, progress, accountability, prosperity and inclusive governance.

Good luck, Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Good luck to the people of Osun State.

OSUN DECIDES 2026.
