The Ebonyi State Police Command has rescued a Methodist cleric, Rev. Ede Sunday, who was abducted by armed men in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state.
The cleric, of the Methodist Church, Ndulo Amofia, was abducted at about 11:55 p.m. on September 9, 2026, after two armed men reportedly double-crossed his vehicle in front of the church.
According to the police, the assailants forced the cleric out of his vehicle and whisked him away on a motorcycle.
The command said its operatives immediately mobilised following a distress call and commenced pursuit of the abductors.
It said the pressure mounted by the operatives forced the hoodlums to abandon the victim and flee.
Rev. Ede was subsequently rescued at St. James Secondary School, Amofia, while his vehicle was also recovered.
The police said the cleric had since been reunited with his family, while efforts were ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
The Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State Command, CP Hope Urunwa Okafor, commended the operatives for their prompt response, courage and professionalism.
Okafor reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information to the police to help prevent and combat crime in the state.
