Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) reads as follows :

“As part of efforts to implement the 2021-2025 strategic plan of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum; the Forum is strengthening the coordination framework for education at the subnational levels of government. NGF requested a strong subnational Forum for Commissioners of Education as is currently the case in the health, justice, finance, and other sectors for synergy and unity, to address challenges in the education sector in the states.

Therefore, we have agreed to constitute an interim leadership of the forum for Commissioners of Education in Nigeria to be chaired by Prof Amari Omaka, SAN, MTRCN (Commissioner for Tertiary Education Ebonyi State).

Prof. Omaka will be saddled with the responsibility of contact and mobilisation and ensure that all the 36 states Commissioners of Education attend the workshop in the first week of December 2023.
He will also constitute a 6-man committee of this forum, one from each of the six geopolitical zones to draft a constitution for the forum to be validated at the workshop in December.

There will be a steady communication between Prof. (the interim chairman) and the Department of Education through the Directorate of Research and Strategy of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum.

The interim chairman will also represent the Forum at National events and will be formally presented to the Ministry of Education and the Nigerian Education Group (NEG) pending the elections of the new leadership.

I congratulate Prof Omaka and wish him well in this onerous task ahead. I urge Hon. Commissioners to support Prof. to undertake this task and seamlessly coordinate subnational educational development for collective benefits.”

Below are except of his acceptance speech:

In his acceptance Speech, the Chair Commissioners of Education of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum of the Federal Republic of Nigeria , Prof Chukwu Amari Omaka, SAN (MTRCN), stated that “it is a great honour and privilege to be called upon at this auspicious period of our nation’s history to be on the saddle as the interim Chairman of Commissioners of Education of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum.

After very thoughtful considerations and consultations, I consider it expedient to accept the responsibility.

” Dear colleagues, I have taken my time to digest various views and concerns of our members and assure you that all would be addressed on the rationale for this body, and I believe that all concerns raised by members are… to guarantee the legitimacy of this body. On this note, I want to specially appreciate the Head of the Education Directorate of the NGF, Dr Ebenezer Leo The Great, on his spirited effort in offering dispassionate explanations on the foundation of this Forum”.

” Let’s remind ourselves that education is at the core of human capital development and growth of any nation. We should therefore consider ourselves privileged to be called upon to serve as members of our respective state Executive Councils as Honourable Commissioners in the education sector. Therefore, we must not fail our principals, our states and indeed our dear nation in this assignment…
As we prepare for our workshop /convention in December I wish all of us well.

Once more I appreciate the Head of Education of NGF for this laudable initiative and the efforts so far made to bring us together.

I join Dr Leo to advice us to feel free to visit the Secretariat of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) where this Forum is domiciled whenever we are in Abuja.ie 51 Lake Chad Crescent Maitama, Abuja.
