Rt Hon Paul Ohonbamu Assumes Office as Commissioner for Local Govt and Chieftaincy Affairs

…..Reaffirms Government’s Commitment to Effective Service Delivery

The newly appointed Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Paul Ohonbamu, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to effective service delivery.

Hon. Ohonbamu made this known during his assumption of office as the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, following a cabinet reshuffle approved by the Executive Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo.

He commended the foundation laid by his predecessor, Sir (Dr.) Lucky Eseigbe, who has now been reassigned to the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, and assured that he would build on existing successes to further enhance institutional efficiency.

The Honourable Commissioner further pledged to promote teamwork, accountability, and service excellence, noting that “no one is a champion in the game.” Reflecting on his legislative experience, he recalled that as a member of the House of Assembly, he authored the law guiding the ministry’s role in local government administration. He added that this background has given him a deep understanding of the complexities of governance, especially in chieftaincy matters.

Earlier, the outgoing Commissioner, Sir (Dr.) Lucky Eseigbe, highlighted key achievements during his tenure, including improved local government administration, the peaceful resolution of chieftaincy disputes, and the payment of gratuities to retired workers. He expressed gratitude to the staff of the Ministry for their cooperation and support throughout his time in office.

Staff members applauded Dr. Eseigbe’s leadership and pledged their full support to Hon. Paul Ohonbamu, describing the transition as a positive step toward sustaining progress and continuity in the Ministry.

The formal handover ceremony, held at the Ministry’s headquarters, was witnessed by the Permanent Secretary, management, and staff, marking a smooth transition of leadership.
