The FCT Chapter of the Standup for Women Society, SWS, has congratulated Nigerian children on the occasion of the 2026 International Children’s Day celebration, describing children as a precious heritage from God who deserve protection, care and quality education.

In a statement issued to mark the celebration, the group called on governments at all levels to prioritise free and compulsory education for every Nigerian child, stressing that education remains the strongest foundation for national development and a brighter future.

The Chapter noted that Children’s Day serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility of parents, government, religious bodies, schools and society to ensure that children grow in a safe, healthy and supportive environment.

According to the statement, children remain the hope and future of Nigeria and must be properly guided with sound moral values, discipline, patriotism and access to opportunities that will help them become responsible citizens and future leaders.

The group also urged children across the country to remain focused on learning, shun social vices such as drug abuse, cultism, cybercrime and violence, and embrace integrity, hard work, creativity and national unity.

The Standup for Women Society further appealed to government authorities to strengthen policies that protect children’s rights and improve access to education, healthcare and social welfare, especially for vulnerable children across the country.

“As we celebrate our children today, we must renew our commitment towards building a Nigeria where every child can dream, learn and succeed irrespective of background, ethnicity or religion,” the statement added.

The organisation commended parents, teachers, caregivers and development partners for their continuous sacrifices in nurturing children despite prevailing economic challenges.

The statement was jointly signed by Lib Mina Daniels, Chairperson, and Lib Princess Joy Idam, Secretary.
