ABUJA, NIGERIA – As the world celebrates International Women’s Day 2025, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), FCT Chapter, joins the global community in commemorating the achievements of women and continuing the fight for gender equality.

This year’s theme, “Accelerate Action,” reflects the global effort to push for gender equity and recognize the significant contributions women make in all spheres of life. “On this special day, we stand in solidarity with women in FCT and globally to accelerate action and push for gender equity,” says Comrade Bassey Ita Ikpang, Chairperson of NAWOJ FCT.

The Need for Urgent Action
Women, particularly those in rural communities, continue to face challenges, including limited access to education, economic opportunities, healthcare, and political representation. While progress has been made, there remains a pressing need to take deliberate and bold actions to break barriers that hinder women’s development.
Call to Stakeholders
NAWOJ FCT calls on:
- Government agencies to implement and enforce policies promoting gender equality and providing sustainable support for rural women.
- Traditional and community leaders to champion women’s empowerment and eliminate harmful cultural practices.
- Corporate bodies and development partners to invest in skill acquisition, entrepreneurship programs, and healthcare services targeted at women in underserved communities.
- The media to continue amplifying women’s voices and advocating for social justice and equal opportunities.
Our Commitment
NAWOJ FCT remains steadfast in ensuring women’s issues remain a priority. Through strategic partnerships, media advocacy, and capacity-building initiatives, we will continue to push for the empowerment of women across all sectors.
As we celebrate International Women’s Day 2025, let us take decisive steps towards creating a future where every woman, regardless of her background, can achieve her full potential. Together, let’s accelerate action and amplify the voices of rural women!
