The Standup for Women Societies (SWS), FCT Chapter under the leadership of its Chairperson Comrade Stella Okoh Esene, has extended warm felicitations to comrade Grace Ike on her historic emergence via election as the first female Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council after 43 years with 16 men preceding her.
This historical glass ceiling smashing achievement is a proud moment for Nigerian women and a proof to the progress women are making in advancing gender equality and women’s leadership across all sectors of society. Grace Ike’s emergence is not only a personal triumph but also a beacon of inspiration for women and girls nationwide who aspire to break barriers and take up leadership positions in traditionally male-dominated spaces.
The SWS recognizes the resilience, doggedness, capacity, competence, and vision that Comrade Grace Ike has proven throughout her career, qualities that have earned her this landslide victory. We also commend the members of the NUJ FCT Council for their commitment to democracy and inclusivity, which made this milestone possible.
As she assumes office, we are confident that Comrade Ike that you will deliver on all your campaign promises and will lead with distinction, advocating for the rights, welfare, and professional development of journalists while upholding the tenets of press freedom and integrity in journalism.
