Taraba Open to Constructive Engagement with the European Union

Governor Agbu Kefas says Taraba state is open to constructive engagement with the European Union toward harnessing its vast economic potential.

The Governor gave the assurance when he visited the European Union mission office in Abuja on 11th July 2023.

The governor was received at the European Union office by the EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Ms. Samuela Isopi.

He said the EU is a highly rated organization, which is why he has come to seek their expertise to assist in developing Taraba state.

He solicited assistance and interventions of Team Europe through linkage with other development partners which will uplift the standard of living of the people.

He called for specific interventions in the provision of social amenities, renewable energy, and agricultural development.

Dr. Agbu also appealed to the EU to always consider Taraba state first in all their interventionist programs which will have a more direct and visible impact in the State than anywhere in the country.

He said the EU possesses the capacity to identify and facilitate investment opportunities that abound in Taraba state.

He extended an invitation to the EU mission to visit Taraba to explore the richness of the state.

Earlier, the EU Ambassador Ms. Samuela Isopi who preferred the EU to be addressed as Team Europe, congratulated Dr. Agbu Kefas on his election victory.

She said that the initiatives so far undertaken by the Governor to improve governance are very commendable and encouraged him to introduce more of such reforms.

She assured the Governor of the support and cooperation of Team Europe, emphasizing that the Union has a long-standing partnership with Nigeria.

She stressed that the Union is exploring more bilateral relationships with state governments through the Nigerian Governors Forum which is an important organization.

The Ambassador disclosed that she already had fruitful discussions with the chairman of the forum who is also the Governor of Kwara state, Abdulrahman Abdulrazak on how to collaborate not only on policy issues but also having a physical presence in the States.
