Senator David Umahi, the Minister of Works, has expressed dissatisfaction with the slow pace of work on the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway in southeast Nigeria.

Umahi noted that the progress on the expressway was disappointing and conveyed his concerns during a project inspection weekend.

Umahi urged contractors to fulfil their responsibilities and ensure the timely completion of the project. Umahi inspected other ongoing projects in the South-South and South-East regions to promote prompt delivery and adherence to project timelines.

In Delta State, he mentioned that he was “not particularly impressed” with the work done by CCECC on the Warri-Benin-Asaba Road. He expressed concern over the slow progress on the Efurun-Sapele section and encouraged contractors to intensify their efforts to meet the project’s deadline. “Timely completion is crucial, and I expect all contractors to work diligently toward achieving this goal,” he stated.

Umahi appreciated the collaboration between the Delta State government and the federal government concerning ongoing projects in the state. He highlighted that the Delta State Government’s proactive approach in handling compensation payments to affected individuals has significantly helped accelerate these projects. “I am confident that this collaboration will yield positive results, and I assure the state government that the Federal Ministry of Works will honour its commitments,” he said.

The former Governor of Ebonyi State also inspected the ongoing construction of the Eke-Obinagu flyover in Enugu State and expressed satisfaction with the project’s progress.
