Members of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists Borno State chapter joined forces with their colleagues across the country to raise awareness on the 16 days campaign against gender-based violence as part of their effort to help lend their voices to amplify campaign to end impunity and abuse against women and girls.
Nawoj Borno marks this year’s occasion with a unique approach as members took to the streets with their placards chanting and displaying defferent gender slogans, delivered talks highlighting issues affecting women and their rights, made visits to vulnerable and VVF women in the Maiduguri Specialist hospital and made donations.
The Chairperson of NAWOJ Borno , Hajiya Fatima Zannah, in her key message, called on all victims of abuse to speak out early to allow for quick interventions and proper trace of evidence.
She equally called on the government to protect the rights of victims and prosecute perpetrators.
The global 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is a key international moment to call for an end to violence against women and girls. The event runs from 25th November, 2023 ,the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women to 10th December, 2023, Human Rights Day.
During the 16 Days of Activism, people around the world unite to raise awareness about gender-based violence, challenge discriminatory attitudes against women and girls, and call for improved laws and services to end violence against women .
The 2023 theme, UNITE! Invest to prevent violence against women and girls ,focusing on the importance of investing in different prevention strategies to stop violence from its beginning.
