NUJ FCT Council Mourns Presidential Villa Assistant Director, Media, Peter Onwubuariri

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, has received with deep sorrow the news of the passing of Mr Peter Onwubuariri, Assistant Director, Media, at the Presidential Villa, who died after a prolonged illness.

The Council describes the death of the veteran journalist and public servant as a painful loss to the Presidency, the News Agency of Nigeria, the media community and the nation at large.

Onwubuariri, a Correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), was posted to the Presidential Villa in 2014 and subsequently served in the media teams of three successive administrations

Onwubuariri covered a broad range of critical national and international issues, including foreign affairs, telecommunications, politics and finance.

He brought extensive professional experience, sound judgment, and a deep understanding of how government and the media work to his assignments.

Before his posting to the Presidential Villa, he rose through the ranks at the News Agency of Nigeria, serving as Assistant Editor-in-Chief and contributing significantly to the agency’s journalism and editorial operations.

The NUJ FCT Council commends the late Onwubuariri for his dedication, professionalism and commitment to duty, noting that his years of service across three administrations reflected his competence, loyalty to the nation and enduring commitment to public service.

Speaking on his passing, Chairman of the NUJ FCT Council Comrade Ike said his passing was a painful death

“Peter was a dedicated and committed journalist whose professionalism and calm disposition earned him the respect of his colleagues and associates”

“His passing is a great loss to the media fraternity and Nigeria” She said

He will be remembered for his commitment, his wealth of experience and his contributions to journalism profession”

On behalf of the entire membership of the NUJ FCT Council, Ike extends heartfelt condolences to Onwubuariri’s wife, his three children, his siblings, his extended family, colleagues and friends.

The Council prays that God Almighty grants the family the strength to bear this loss and grants the soul of the departed eternal rest.
