2022 Intl Girl Child Day: SWS Abia Chapter takes Advocacy to Media

As part of the activities to mark this year’s International day of “The Girl Child” The State Chapter of the Standup for Women Society, SWS, embarked on Awareness Campaign and Coutesy visits to some Media Houses in the State including the Broadcasting corporation of Abia state (BCA). to celebrate the day.

Receiving the women, the Director General, Sir Anyaso Anyaso called on members of SWS to always protect the Rights of Girls and Women in the society. Sir Anyaso who stated this in his office when members of the group paid him a courtesy visit, disclosed that the Girl Child needs proper treatment and Protection, and regretted that Cultural, Social Political among other factors hinders women from achieving their full potentials.

He advised the group to take their Advocacy to the families, the church and the traditional institutions to make greater impacts and promised that BCA will partner with the women group.

In her remarks earlier, the State Chairperson, SWS Abia Chapter, Mrs Gloria Agonmuo noted that the association is a non governmental, non-political organization that exist in every state of the federation with the aim of bringing women together to speak with one voice on issues concerning women.

Mrs Agonmuo also opined that they plan to reach out to women, be a voice to the voiceless, engage young girls in trade and employment, and pleaded with the Corporation to help them project the ideas of the association.

In a vote of thanks, the Assistant Secretary of SWS, Mrs Ify Mekowulu, thanked the DG for the warm reception and promised that the group will abide by the tenets of the Association.
