Ahead of the 2027 general elections, women in Ebonyi State have pledged to mobilise massively for the re-election of Governor Francis Nwifuru and other All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates.
The women also commended the governor for what they described as unprecedented inclusion of women in his administration, saying his policies and appointments had demonstrated strong commitment to women’s participation in governance.
The Commissioner for Special Projects, Dr Ngozi Obichukwu, and Commissioner for Budget, Planning, Research and Monitoring, Chief Chinwe Okah, stated this while speaking with journalists during the grand finale of the 2026 August Meeting for Ebonyi women.
The event, organised by the wife of the governor, Mrs Uzoamaka Mary-Maudline Nwifuru, was held at the Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium in Abakaliki.
Obichukwu said Nwifuru had performed beyond expectations and deserved another term to enable him to complete ongoing projects across the 13 local government areas of the state.
She urged women to see their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) as a major instrument for determining the outcome of elections, stressing that women would use their numerical strength to support the governor and other APC candidates.
According to her, “Governor Francis Nwifuru is coming back to finish the job that he has started in this state. We women have already gotten our tools. If you don’t have your farm tools, you’re wasting time on your farm.
“And what is our tool? Our PVC. We are fully registered with APC, and we are 85 per cent of the population. We are the ones that do the voting.
“So, women are ready and more serious to ensure that Governor Francis Nwifuru and all the candidates of the APC are elected in the forthcoming 2027 general election.”
The commissioner further urged women to remain focused, embrace education and keep abreast of developments around the world if they must secure more political appointments and leadership positions.
“A woman who wants to succeed must be in line and in trend with the happenings of the world. If you are not educated, you are highly unacceptable.
“Yes, education is the key and our dear governor is championing that too,” she said.
Also speaking, Chinwe Okah said Ebonyi women were solidly behind Governor Nwifuru, insisting that his administration had given women greater recognition than previous administrations.
She said the governor’s commitment to women was reflected in the increasing number of women being appointed into government positions, particularly the recent appointment of more women from rural communities as Executive Assistants to the governor.
“Nobody is contesting the governorship position with our dear governor. I assure you that the women of Ebonyi State are solidly behind His Excellency, Governor Francis Nwifuru.
“Even though all the past governors have been recognising women, this particular administration has recognised women in such an extraordinary way. And the women are not joking with him.
“So, that is why we have our full support for him. You saw what happened yesterday: more women from the rural communities were appointed as Executive Assistants to the governor.
“This is why Ebonyi women are insisting that Governor Francis Nwifuru must be re-elected in the forthcoming general election,” she said.
