A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Lazarus Ogbee, has officially declared his intention to contest for the Ebonyi Central Senatorial seat in the upcoming 2027 election.
His declaration further widen the field of contenders ahead of the next election cycle.

Ogbee, who previously represented Ezza South/Ikwo Federal Constituency, joins the race alongside the incumbent Senator Kenneth Eze, Hon. Chris Usulor, and Christian Asaga bringing the number of aspirants to four and setting the stage for a keenly contested political battle in the zone.
His entry is widely seen as a significant development, given his extensive political background and longstanding influence across different tiers of governance. Observers believe his experience could reshape the dynamics of the contest within the senatorial district.
Declaring his ambition, Ogbee said his decision is anchored on a strong commitment to public service and a desire to offer effective representation to the people of Ebonyi Central at the National Assembly.
“With a deep sense of responsibility and unwavering commitment to the progress of our people, I hereby formally declare my intention to contest for the position of Senator representing Ebonyi Central Senatorial Zone on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC),” he stated.
He emphasized that Ebonyi Central deserves leadership that is experienced, responsive, and people-oriented, noting that his years in public office have prepared him for the task ahead.
Ogbee highlighted his track record in governance, which includes serving as Coordinator of a Development Centre, a two-term Local Government Chairman, Member of the House of Representatives, and Commissioner. According to him, these roles have given him a broad understanding of grassroots development, policymaking, and legislative responsibilities.
“Over the years, I have been privileged to serve our people in various capacities… These experiences have equipped me with a deep understanding of governance, grassroots development, and legislative responsibility. I am committed to leveraging this wealth of experience to attract meaningful development, strengthen our voice at the national level, and deliver tangible results for every community in Ebonyi Central,” he added.
He also called on stakeholders, party faithful, and residents of the zone to rally behind his ambition, pledging to work towards unity, progress, and inclusive development.
“I humbly call on all stakeholders, party faithful, and the good people of our zone to join me in this journey to build a stronger, more united, and prosperous Ebonyi Central,” Ogbee said.
With multiple aspirants now in the race, political analysts expect heightened consultations, alignments, and grassroots mobilization in the coming months as the contest gathers momentum.
