A Tremendous Loss, Honoring Professor Jibril Aminu’s Enduring Legacy

It is with profound sadness that I, on behalf of the entire National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) Nigeria, extend our deepest condolences on the demise of a distinguished scholar and remarkable Nigerian, Professor Jibril Muhammad Aminu.

Professor Jibril Aminu was not only a renowned academia and respected statesman but also a beacon of excellence whose legacy will remain etched in the history of our great country. His transition into public service saw him emerge as a statesman of unparalleled dedication. As the pioneer Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), he meticulously laid the groundwork for the structured development of university education in Nigeria.

His visionary leadership as Minister of Education gifted our nation the enduring 6-3-3-4 education system and established vital institutions like the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) and the National Commission for Nomadic Education (NCNE).

Professor Aminu’s Midas touch extended to the petroleum sector, where as Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, he significantly advanced Nigeria’s oil industry, even presiding over the OPEC Conference. His diplomatic acumen shone brightly during his impactful service as Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United States. Later, as a Senator representing Adamawa Central, he continued his unwavering commitment to education and foreign affairs, leaving an indelible mark on our legislative landscape.

From serving as Vice Chancellor, Minister, Ambassador, to Senator, Professor Aminu embodied selfless leadership, intellectual depth, and uncommon patriotism. His multifaceted contributions—spanning education, health, petroleum, diplomacy, and legislation—speak volumes of a life devoted to nation-building. The life of Professor Jibril Muhammad Aminu was a shining testament to unwavering dedication, brilliant intellect, and selfless service. His demise is not only a great loss to Adamawa State but an immeasurable one to Nigeria as a whole.

His legacy, particularly as a Distinguished Fellow of the Nigerian Postgraduate Medical College and a key figure in shaping our educational and petroleum sectors, will undoubtedly endure. Though he is no longer with us, Professor Aminu’s contributions have not just touched but profoundly transformed Nigeria’s educational and political landscape. They will forever be remembered and cherished.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. May they find strength and solace in the memories of a life well-lived and a man who dedicated himself to the betterment of the society.

With heartfelt sympathy,

Princess Edna D D Azura (Kwatam Mutaku),
