On Saturday, 20th July 2024, the Julebrama Women and Children Initiative (JUWACI) Nigeria celebrated the graduation of 31 students from its Sustainable Educational Stability for Vulnerable Children (SESVC) project. Held at the NOUN Conference Centre on Airport Road, Abuja, the event highlighted the achievements of these young individuals who have overcome significant challenges.
The SESVC project, launched in 2021, supports the education of vulnerable children from public schools across Nigeria, particularly orphans, children affected by war, and those whose guardians can not afford their education. The full scholarship initiative provides academic support and equips students with skills for economic empowerment. Starting with 60 students in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the project now supports 179 students across Kogi State, Benue State, and FCT, with 148 still benefiting from the scholarship program.
During the ceremony, JUWACI’s founder, Mrs Jennifer Hembafan Alih, emphasized the organization’s mission to create a thriving world and highlighted the role of education in breaking the cycle of poverty. Representatives from the education sector, local government, and partnering organizations commended the SESVC initiative and encouraged support for JUWACI.
Graduates shared their stories, expressing gratitude for the opportunities provided by SESVC and showcasing their skills in tailoring, beadbag making, digital literacy, and entrepreneurship.
A notable highlight was the launch of the JUWACI Mother’s Club, designed to create a safe space for mothers and strengthen community support for the projects JUWACI organisation.
JUWACI remains dedicated to combating illiteracy in Nigeria and calls on individuals, organizations, and the government to support the SESVC project. The success of these graduates underscores the transformative impact of education and collective effort.
