Maiduguri Flooding : Enugu NAWOJ Sympathizes With National Chairperson, Colleagues and Borno People

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, Enugu State (NAWOJ), has expressed deep sympathy with the victims of the recent floods in Borno State, including the National Chairperson, Hajia Aisha Ibrahim, and fellow journalists.

The devastating floods, triggered by the collapse of the Alau Dam, have caused widespread destruction, submerging thousands of homes, farmlands, and government facilities in Maiduguri, including the palace of the Shehu of Borno.

NAWOJ Enugu has pledged to stand in solidarity with the affected communities, supporting and helping rebuild through amplifying stories to attract assistance from all spheres of life

The association has also appealed to the federal and state governments to provide urgent relief materials and temporary shelter to those affected, carry out dam maintenance to prevent future occurrences, and deploy medical personnel to address health hazards, particularly affecting women and children.

“Our hearts ache for the losses endured, but we also admire the strength, resilience, and courage displayed by the people of Borno State,” said a spokesperson for NAWOJ Enugu. “We will continue to pray for the victims,support and amplify their stories to attract assistance from all spheres.

NAWOJ Enugu’s gesture is a testament to the power of solidarity and collective action in the face of adversity. As the people of Borno State begin the long journey of recovery, they can count on the support of their fellow journalists and the wider community.
