It has come to our attention that there have been misleading narrative circulating in the public sphere regarding the recent visit of Hon. Ogbonnia Oko Enyim, a distinguished member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Ebonyi state House of Assembly candidate, 2023, for Afikpo West Constituency, to Chief Austin Umahi, from the All Progressives Congress (APC). I would like to take this opportunity to clarify the situation and dismiss any false assumptions or interpretations.
First and foremost, it is crucial to emphasize that Hon. Ogbonnia Oko Enyim’s visit to Chief Austin Umahi has absolutely nothing to do with defecting to another political party. The insinuations made about him considering a move from the PDP to the APC are entirely baseless. Let us not be swayed by rumors and gossip but rather rely on factual information.
As the date of the visit was 19th, December, 2023, and the Appeal court Judgement was on 23rd, December, 2023, let’s analyze this: How could he plan to defect to the APC, having it that he doesn’t know his fate at the time of his visit? Hon. Ogbonnia Oko Enyim Appeal Court Judgement with Hon.Ikoro was still on as of the time of his visit to Chief Austin Umahi.
It is vital to understand that the purpose of Hon. Enyim’s visit was purely personal in nature. It was driven by a long-standing friendship and a desire to address private matters. It is essential to acknowledge that politicians, just like any other individuals, have personal relationships that extend beyond the boundaries of their professional or political lives. They are also human beings who engage in personal relationships, which may transcend political boundaries.
It is unfortunate that such a simple visit between friends has been blown out of proportion and wrongly interpreted. It is crucial for the public not to jump into conclusions and instead focus on verified information. In times when misinformation is rampant, it is our civic duty to seek the truth and avoid contributing to further misunderstandings.
Hon. Ogbonnia Oko Enyim has been a dedicated member of the PDP, and there are no indications or plans for him to abandon his party and join the APC. He is a foundation member of the PDP in Ebonyi state and has no intentions of dumping his party. This visit should not be misconstrued as a political alliance or endorsement of any kind. Let us respect the decisions of politicians and allow them the freedom to nurture personal relationships and friendships, irrespective of any political differences or affiliations.
In conclusion, I urge the public to refrain from spreading unverified information and to approach these situations with rationality and objectivity. The visit of Hon. Ogbonnia Oko Enyim to Chief Austin Umahi was rooted on friendship, personal matters, and nothing more. Let us focus on pressing issues facing our nation and engage in meaningful discussions that can bring about positive change, to our immediate community and the nation at large.
