The Ebonyi State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its crime-fighting efforts in 2025, arresting 1,733 suspects and rescuing kidnapped victims across the state.

Under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Adaku Uche-Anya, the Command strengthened community policing through extensive tours of the 13 Local Government Areas of Ebonyi State, where the Commissioner engaged traditional rulers, community leaders and other strategic stakeholders. The engagements focused on dialogue, peace and collaboration as key pillars for sustainable security and societal growth.

Within the year under review, the Command arrested 1,733 suspects in connection with 913 criminal cases. The arrests involved 1,624 male and 109 female suspects. Out of these, 462 cases involving 822 male and 22 female suspects were thoroughly investigated and charged to court.

The Command investigated several serious crimes, including 88 cases of murder, 48 cases of armed robbery, 30 cases of rape, 156 cases of stealing and 36 cases of unlawful possession of firearms, among others.

In terms of operational successes, the Police recovered 35 locally fabricated single and double-barrelled pistols and long guns, seven pump-action rifles, six AK-47/assault rifles and 149 rounds of assorted ammunition. Nine kidnapped victims were rescued, while six stolen vehicles were recovered, including a Sino truck that was being vandalised for sale as scrap.

CP Uche-Anya commended officers and men of the Command, sister security agencies, strategic stakeholders and the peace-loving people of Ebonyi State for their cooperation and support, which she said contributed to the successes recorded in 2025.

She assured that the Command would consolidate on these gains in 2026 by deepening community policing, strengthening synergy with sister security agencies, enhancing officers’ capacity through in-house training, and promoting professionalism and civility in police-public relations.
