Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has taken a bold stance against kidnapping, declaring “Enough is enough” in his efforts to curb the menace. Determined to create a safe and secure environment for the people of Cross River State, Governor Otu has undertaken several key initiatives to tackle kidnapping.
At the forefront of his strategy is the strict enforcement of the Cross River State Kidnapping Prohibition Law of 2016, which prescribes death by hanging for kidnappers and 20 years imprisonment for attempted kidnapping. Governor Otu has directed law enforcement agencies to implement this law with utmost rigor.

To encourage citizen participation in the fight against kidnapping, Governor Otu has announced a reward for any useful information that can lead to the arrest and prosecution of kidnappers. This move aims to empower citizens to report suspicious activities and collaborate with security agencies.
The governor has also affirmed that the state’s security architecture is now better positioned to tackle kidnapping and has vowed to be ruthless with criminal elements. He has directed security agencies to employ all resources at their disposal to stop kidnapping and free hostages.
In addition to his security measures, Governor Otu has emphasized the importance of providing palliatives to alleviate the suffering of citizens occasioned by subsidy removal. He has urged residents not to resort to criminality, recognizing the potential link between economic hardship and criminal behavior.
