The Director of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Education Resource Centre (ERC), Dr. Neemat Daud Abdulrahim, has been honoured with the Media-Friendly Education Leadership Recognition Award by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCTA Chapel, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to educational development, literacy promotion, knowledge management, and her strong partnership with the media.
The award was presented during the 2026 NUJ FCTA Chapel Press Week, where distinguished individuals from different sectors were recognised for their remarkable contributions to public service, national development, and institutional excellence.
Receiving the award, Dr. Abdulrahim described the recognition as both humbling and motivating, expressing gratitude to the leadership of the NUJ FCTA Chapel, the Press Week Committee, and members of the union for finding her worthy of the honour.
She noted that recognition from journalists, whom she described as custodians of information, public accountability, and democratic values, carries special significance because it reflects public confidence in the work of institutions committed to societal development.
According to her, the award is not only a celebration of achievements but also a renewed call to greater service in advancing education and supporting initiatives that improve learning outcomes across the Federal Capital Territory.
Dr. Abdulrahim reaffirmed the commitment of the FCT Education Resource Centre to promoting quality education, literacy, knowledge management, and innovation, stressing that education and the media remain indispensable partners in building an informed, productive, and responsible society.
She also commended the organisers for selecting “Tax Compliance and Good Governance in the Federal Capital Territory” as the theme of the 2026 Press Week, describing it as timely and relevant in promoting civic responsibility, transparency, accountability, and sustainable development.
The ERC Director observed that good governance thrives when citizens are well educated, institutions operate transparently, and the media continues to uphold the principles of professionalism, truth, and accountability.
She dedicated the award to the staff of the FCT Education Resource Centre, the FCT Education Secretariat, and the Centre’s development partners, acknowledging their collective efforts in improving educational standards, expanding library services, promoting literacy, and advancing innovative learning initiatives across the FCT.
Dr. Abdulrahim assured the NUJ FCTA Chapel and other stakeholders that the honour would further strengthen the Centre’s collaboration with the media in promoting quality education and ensuring greater access to meaningful learning opportunities for children and communities within the nation’s capital.
She also appreciated the Nigeria Union of Journalists, FCTA Chapel, for the recognition and wished the union continued success in championing ethical journalism, truth, accountability, and national development.
The 2026 NUJ FCTA Chapel Press Week featured a series of activities, including a sensitisation walk across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) training sessions, a public lecture, and an awards ceremony, attracting journalists, government officials, development partners, and other stakeholders.
